When you want to give your curls some time to rest and recover, it's important to leave them alone. This is a great time to pick a great protective style, put your curls into it, and leave it for several weeks. Make sure you're still wetting your strands, washing your scalp, and moisturizing your strands but in the meantime, leave your hair alone. Also, make sure to oil your scalp and ends as needed to help lock in moisture, and encourage healthy blood flow between.
When your curls aren't in a protective style, up your deep conditioning game. Treat your curls to the spa treatment they deserve, and start indulging in a weekly deep conditioning treatment. This will help restore lost moisture, and enhance the overall health of your strands. Healthy curls are generally longer, stronger curls that actually grow. Additionally, make sure you're adding in a protein treatment every 4 weeks minimum to help keep the overall structure and strength of your curls.
Promise yourself you're going to take several months off from using heat on your hair. The only exception to this should be using a hair dryer with a diffuser on a low setting, but rarely. Try to allow enough time in your schedule for your curls to be able to air dry completely before leaving the house. However, this means banishing your flat iron and curling iron. Any heat can be really damaging to your curls, and end up causing more harm than good.
