The Minimalist Curl Care Routine

Shampoo and conditioner:

Keep it simple. Find a moisturizing, all natural shampoo free of chemicals, sulfates, or parabens. The simpler, the better. Saturate your curls completely with water and section into 4-6 sections. Wash each section gently, using slow, massaging circles. Rinse with cool water and apply a moisturizing conditioner to all the sections. All to sit 5-10 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Stylers:

Having the right styler will help your curls become easier to manage. When you get out of the shower, squeegie your hair to remove excess moisture and immediately apply a leave in treatment. Select the appropriate weight depending on how heavy your curls are. For example, those with waves or fine curls should select a lighter formula. Follow the leave-in conditioner with a curl defining gel, mousse or cream. Use enough to completely cover your curls without overloading it, as this can pull curls down. Dry your curls with a diffuser or by air drying.

Maintaining:

Taking care of your curls regularly is important. Consider cutting back on the amount of times per week that you shampoo your curls to preserve their shape. At night, sleep with your curls pineappled, or in a satin bonnet to prevent them from falling or becoming disheveled. If you’re waking up with flattened or frizzy curls, consider misting them with a curl refreshing spray or even a bottle of filtered water to give a shot of moisture to help refresh them.
