The Correct Way To Apply Curly Products

Pre poo:

When you're ready to start, begin with a freshly washed head of curls. To do this, get in the shower and thoroughly wet your curls with warm water. Once your stands are completely saturated, apply your conditioner throughout your strands, from the midshaft down. Allow it to sit for a few moments to soften your strands, and then gently detangle.

After you've detangled your strands, you can use a sulfate, paraben-free shampoo to cleanse your curls. Apply a small amount to the palm of your hand and work it through your curls. Use your finger tips to massage it in, working in small, circular motions. Allow the water to rinse the shampoo out of your hair, but don't scrub the bottom part of your curls with the shampoo.

Deep conditioner:

After you've rinsed out the shampoo, you can apply your favorite deep conditioner. Some curly girls opt to switch between a protein based deep conditioner, and a moisturizing one. Overuse of either can leave your curls unbalanced, so mixing it up can be helpful to keep curls properly hydrated. Cover your curls with a plastic shower cap, and allow the deep conditioner to sit for at least 30 minutes. If your curls are particularly dry or damaged, you can apply heat to help the product penetrate your strands. Rinse away with cool water, and leave some conditioner behind to moisturize your hair.

Leave in:

After you've gently squeezed excess water from your curls, you can apply your leave in treatment. This is a great time to use a leave in conditioner or prep product to help retain moisture. Apply thoroughly throughout your hair, and scrunch in.

Curl cream:

Next, you'll want to apply your curl cream, or activator. These products will help your curls retain their natural shape and texture, as well as lock moisture in. Apply to your palms, and scrunch upwards to make sure your curls completely get covered, as well as helps retain your shape.

Gel or mousse:

Finally, it's time to apply your last curl care product. Grab your favorite gel or mousse to create a cast on your curls. this will allow your strands to stay in place while air drying or being diffused. Apply by scrunching, allow to completely dry, and then gently shake your curls to break the cast.
