Having curls can feel like a blessing and a curse. While everyone else around you wishes they had your mane of coils, you know how much work goes into having a great curl day. We want you to love your curls every day, so here are a few secrets to making your life with curls that much easier.

Plastic wrap: Hear us out. Before styling your curls, cover your sink drain with a bit of plastic wrap. This will keep stray hairs from slipping down the drain and clogging it. When you’re done styling, wipe down with a damp cloth and toss the plastic.

Start from the bottom: When detangling curls, use your fingers or a wide toothed comb to start from the bottom and work your way back up towards the roots. Never pull, tear or yank on curls, as that can break them.

Pre condition: On wash days, dampen your curls and apply a deep conditioner throughout your curls before getting in the shower. Cover with a plastic cap and then save your hair washing for last. The steam from the shower will allow the product to penetrate your curls.

Mix it up: Mix a small amount of sulfate free shampoo with a conditioner to create your own unique cowash. Work it through your curls starting at your crown to manage oil and throughout your curls. This will help cleanse your hair without removing moisture.

Don’t completely rinse: After you’ve cleansed and applied a conditioner, don’t rinse it all away. Allow some conditioner to remain to help keep your curls moisturized throughout the day.

Rock the pineapple: While allowing your curls to dry, “pineapple” them by piling them on top of your head. This will keep your curls from pulling out of their natural shape and becoming frizzy.

Cocktail: When applying product, create your own curl care “cocktail” by applying your gel and leave in conditioner together. Scrunch the product throughout your curls to help maintain their natural shape.

Seal the ends: Use coconut oil to seal the ends of your curls. This will help to prevent moisture from escaping, which will lead to healthier, less frizzy curls.
