Is there anything more aggravating than spending all this time styling your curls, only for them to look dry, crunchy, or worse yet, stringy? We don’t think so! It’s a waste of your time when your curls don’t come out looking as perfect as they could. Here’s how you can go about preventing dry and crunchy curls for soft, touchable curls with lots of body and bounce.

Start with wash day. Using a pre poo treatment like conditioner or hot oil, carefully detangle your curls and remove any knots.

If needed, use a clarifying treatment to remove product buildup. Remember, this could be what’s causing your crunchy curl issue.

Deep condition for at least 30 minutes. You can apply heat if needed. Squeeze out excess water after rinsing out the product. Loosely wrap your curls in an old cotton-tshirt, or a microfiber towel. Don’t wrap too hard, or you can squish your curls. After about 20 minutes, remove the towel.

Evenly apply a leave in conditioner and/or a curl defining cream throughout your strands. Follow this by raking in your gel or mousse, making sure to evenly distribute it throughout your strands. Squeeze to create any clumps or ringlets you’d like.

Gently scrunch out any remaining excess water using the t-shirt or towel. Remember to scrunch upwards to encourage your natural curl shape to take. Air dry, or use a diffuser until curls are 100% dry. Taking a bit of serum on your fingertips, scrunch your curls to gently break any cast left behind by the mousse or gel. Enjoy your soft, easy to style, touchable curls!
