Coconut oil has many amazing components, with one being that its very versatile. You can use it as a base to help heal a lot of issues with your strands. Since it’s a great part of your curl care tool box, odds are you probably already have a jar kicking around. If not, it’s relatively inexpensive and easy to find, even at your local grocery store. Here’s how to use coconut oil to heal curl issues. Give these suggestions a try, and fall in love with your curls again!

Damage:

If your strands are dry and damaged, they’re in need of some TLC. Take 4 tablespoons of coconut oil, and combine it with 2 tablespoons of organic honey. Melt gently until the mixture is completely combined, and then apply to your midshafts down. If you have very fine curls, you might want to focus just on the ends. Cover, and allow it to sit overnight for best results. Rinse with warm water and a gentle cleansing shampoo.

Dandruff:

Is anything more irritating than a dry, itchy scalp? We don’t think so! If you’ve fallen prey to dandruff, fortunately there’s something you can do about it. Melt 4 tablespoons of coconut oil, and then combine it with 3-4 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Section your curls, and apply the mixture directly to your scalp. Massage in, and then allow it to sit. The coconut oil will moisturize, while the lemon juice acts as an anti-fungal ingredient. Wash out with warm water and shampoo.

Splits:

While there isn’t a fix all for split ends, there are some things you can do to mitigate the damage. Take 1/4 cup of coconut oil and melt it down. Then, cool it so it isn’t too hot (you don’t want to cook the egg) and combine one large egg yolk. Mix until smooth, and apply to the ends of damp hair. Allow to sit for a least one hour, but the longer the better. Then, rinse with warm water and apply your favorite conditioner to your ends.
