Dealing with frizz can be truly irritating. Nothing messes up our day like our curls going frizzy when we didn’t want them to or weren’t expecting it. Fortunately, frizz can be managed. Here’s how to control frizzy curls.

How To Control Frizzy Curls
Get hydrated:

Frizz is created or made worse by a lack of hydration. First of all, this can be caused by moisture escaping into the atmosphere, lack of proper curl care, or even by over manipulation of your hair. Likewise, you can remedy this issue by increasing your deep conditioning treatments, misting your curls with water, and drinking more water than usual.

Avoid humidity:

Furthermore, too much moisture in the air can be bad for curls! Humidity makes curls expand, while they seek out the moisture from the air.  This makes it hard for your curl’s cuticles to lie back down, creating frizz. The swollen strands are more likely to pop away from the scalp.

Get a trim:

Many curly girls avoid getting trims to save money or avoid the trip to the salon. Trimming your ends will keep your curls healthy and minimize moisture loss.

Switch your routine:

If you’re noticing that your curls are getting frizzy, consider switching up your wash routine. This could mean swapping out a shampoo for a cowash, switching up your conditioning treatments, or trying different products. Your curls could benefit from a smoothing serum, or a heat shielding serum during the summer months.

Less is more:

Additionally, consider taking a less is more approach to your curl care routine.  Try to avoid slathering on too many products after washing, and instead select one or two that might work well for your hair type. Seek out products that are all natural, organic, and low on artificial ingredients to help maintain healthy strands.
