Are you annoyed because you feel as though your curls are always falling flat? For curlies with fine, thinner strands, achieving the big volume of some of our curly friends can feel out of reach. However, you can have big, voluminous curls! Here are some things you can do to style your curls to get more volume.

Have the right washing routine:

Cut down washing your curls to 2-3 times a week. Overwashing your curls can dry them out, which will make them frizzy and difficult to manage.

When you do wash, make sure it’s with a sulfate free shampoo or consider using a co wash instead. Try to avoid shampoos that contain an excess of artificial ingredients.

Once you’ve cleansed, it’s crucial that you follow up with a moisturizing or deep conditioner. Use the conditioner immediately after you shampoo, and allow it to sit on your hair for a minimum of 30 minutes to absorb. Your conditioner should have an oil such as argan, jojoba, or coconut for aded moisture. Make sure to leave some of your conditioner in after rinsing.

Dry your curls correctly:

Don’t use a brush on your strands. Instead, detangle with a wide toothed comb or your fingers to avoid overly disrupting your curl’s natural pattern. Work at the ends and all your way up to your roots. If you can, leave the hair dryer in your drawer and allow your curls to air dry completely.

Remove excess water from your curls by scrunching your curls with a microfiber towels. Focus on gently removing water from small clumps of strands.

Once you’ve removed excess water, plop your curls utilizing an old, soft t-shirt or your microfiber towel. Flip your curls into the t-shirt and tie them up to allow your curls to dry in their pattern.

Allow your curls to sit for a hour or so to allow them to set into their natural pattern. Remove the t-shirt and finish drying your curls using a diffuser. Focus on each section of curls until they’re completely dry. Gently shake them out and go!
