If you have naturally curly hair, you know that battling frizz is an ongoing task! Depending on your curl pattern, you’re going to want to handle frizz in different ways. No one wants to deal with frizz, so here are some tips and tricks from the curl care industry’s top stylists to help you get the best out of your curls!

What causes frizz?

To know how to deal with frizz, you need to start with what causes it. Frizz is often caused by lack of hydration, over styling with heat and too much humidity. You can also get frizzy curls by over cleansing, brushing and toweling curls with terry cloth towels.

How do you stop frizz?

First things first; you need to hydrate those curls. When cleansing, use a shampoo especially for curls and follow up with a hydrating conditioner. Follow up with a monthly deep conditioner to add in extra moisture or utilize a protein treatment to help repair damage. Blot your curls with an old t-shirt or microfiber towel to remove excess moisture before adding in a styling serum from roots to ends. Assess your curl’s needs to figure out what kind of products you need dependent on weather to help manage humidity, and your curl’s pattern.  Avoid overuse of product and select one or two that work well for you. Follow  with a heat protectant or oil to seal in moisture. Arrange your curls how you’d like them to dry, and then diffuse or air dry. Once your curls are dried, you can utilize a shine serum to define your curls, or gently fluff them up to achieve more volume.  To get great next day curls, make sure you continue to utilize a moisturizing mist.
