Are you tired of your strands falling flat, or being dragged down? Do you wish you had full, Shirley Temple-esque curls and ringlets? If so, you’ve come to the right place! Getting full and plump curls doesn’t have to be an unattainable dream. In fact, it’s actually pretty easy to encourage your curls to plump up. Here are easy steps to plump curls. Give these tips and tricks a try, and let us know what you think.

Easy Steps To Plump Curls

Step one:

Start with freshly washed curls, just like you normally would. Use your favorite cowash or shampoo, and follow up with your favorite conditioning treatment. When you reach the conditioner, flip your curls over (carefully, if you’re in the shower!) and rake the product through from back to front. Use a wide toothed comb to ensure the product is evenly distributed.

Step two:

Rinse the conditioner out of your hair while your curls are still upside down. This will allow the water to help create larger clumps, and you can use your hands to encourage this. When all’s said and done, your curls should become naturally divided into 6-8 large clumps. The water will do most of the work for you! Once your curls are rinsed, use the prayer method to gently push excess water out of your curls. Apply a leave in conditioner, then use your fingers to twist your curls. Follow up by smoothing a small amount of gel into each curl.

Step three:

Get your curls started on drying by plopping your strands. Flip your strands over onto an old t-shirt, and wrap your hair up. Allow your strands to dry for at least 20 minutes. This will remove excess water, and permit your strands to begin setting.

Step four:

Once you’ve plopped your curls, remove the t-shirt carefully and begin diffusing your strands. Use a low heat, and spend the time to individually dry each curl clump. Don’t separate any curl clumps, and instead gently move them aside while drying. Once curls are about 90% dry, you can separate the clumps and finish drying. Then, take a bit of oil and twist each curl. This will smooth the shaft and minimize frizz, as well as create shine.

Enjoy your beautiful, shiny, plump curls!
