Taking care of curls is a lot of work. However, with habit and a well established routine you can spend less time taking care of your curls. Here’s a great curl care regime that can help you figure out how to minimize your time getting ready and more time enjoying your curls.

Daily:

In the morning, take your curls out of your protective styling or satin bonnet.

Mist your curls with water, or a mix of water and a carrier oil of your choice. You can also add in essential oils like lavender for a soothing treatment.

Seal your ends with a moisturizing oil like Argan or virgin coconut oil.

In the evening, mist your curls with water again to help add in moisture lost during the day. This is especially important during hot months or when it is dry during the winter.

Before hitting the hay, seal your ends with oils.

Add in a daily leave in conditioner. Try to pick one up that has water listed as the first ingredient. You can also pick up a product like Cantu Leave in Repair to help strands overnight.

Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase, pineapple your curls, or wear a bonnet to bed to protect strands.

Weekly:

Washing your curls daily will do more harm than good. Instead, select 1-2x per week to wash your curls.

Before washing, pre poo with an oil to help seal down strands and retain moisture. Coconut or olive oils are great choices.

Avoid shampooing often. Instead, use a cowash to help remove build up from your scalp and strands without stripping your hair of moisture.

Follow your wash with a deep conditioning treatment. Section your strands and coat each section in a rich deep conditioner. Cover and allow to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes to get the full benefits. You can also apply heat.

Monthly:

Once a month, select one of the following treatments: apple cider vinegar rinse, clarifying shampoo, or protein deep conditioning treatment to help restore curls.
