Many women with naturally curly hair have felt the struggle of finding a trusted stylist to help them manage their hair. Once they have found a stylist they trust and rely on, many women will arrange their hair care schedules around that of their stylist to ensure they’re getting the best curl care possible. Many women leave home for college and work only to schedule their visits home around their stylist’s availability. They know all too well that going to an unknown stylist can be disastrous for their curls.
The struggles of finding great curl care ultimately led two friends, Jennifer Lambert and Jihan Thompson to found Swivel, an app currently available in NYC. Swivel seeks to take the hassle out of finding stylists knowledgable in curl care by pairing client’s needs with pre-screened stylists. Users of the app can read reviews from other Swivel users and search for stylists based upon their curl’s textures and needs.
Another curl-care duo, Victoria Flores and Leslie Wilson-Namad, have sought to help manage the costs associated with curl care. They developed a subscription based service called Lux Beauty Club. This service connects clients with high end curl care products, styling tools and extensions. Users can join the club and earn 30% off on their purchases and can customize their purchases based upon their individual needs. There are no fees or obligation, as users can cancel their subscription to the service at any time.
For women looking to connect with stylists well versed in protective styling, sisters Antonia and Abigail Opiah have founded Yeluchi. Yeluchi is a home-based service app, and was designed to offer stylists well-versed in natural curl care. App users can select from a variety of stylists who have been personally reviewed by the sisters and booking an appointment is easy to do. Instead of having to leave the house to go get their hair done in a salon, app users can enjoy their hair being styled in the comfort of their own homes. While the app is currently available only in NYC, there are plans to expand it in the near future.
