Yup, you’e reading that right. Beer rinses are the new thing for helping enhance your curls, add shine, and minimize frizz. Since so many of us have a can or two of craft micro brews hanging out in our fridge, why not crack one open, take a sip, and give it a try? Remember, this isn’t a gluten friendly option for our celiac and gluten sensitive curly girls.

Get started by grabbing yourself a rinse bottle, or a spray bottle. This will make it much easier for you to control where the beer goes. Then, hop in the shower and completely saturate your curls. Once wet, shampoo with a good cleansing shampoo. You want to get rid of excess build up or product before doing this rinse.

Then, start with the beer rinse. Do it leaning over a bowl so you can collect the beer as its rinsing down your curls. Make sure to completely cover your curls, so the beer gets onto every strand. Once you’ve covered your curls, let your curls soak in the bowl for about 10 minutes. Then, rinse with cool water, condition with your favorite conditioner, and style as you normally would.

After doing this beer rinse, your curls should feel as though you just did a deep conditioning treatment. Your strands should be soft, shiny, and easy to comb your fingers through. This is a great, inexpensive, and low to no waste option for a rinse, since you’re already using products you have on hand.
