How To Take Care Of Your Curly Hair

It’s easy to feel like you’re falling into a rut with your curly hair styles. However, you don’t have to wear your hair the same way every day. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to style your curly hair.

Bottoms up:

When combing your curls, start from the bottom and work your way up. Tackle each knot individually to prevent tearing. Use conditioner if you need to create extra slip. When you do detangle, make sure to use a wide toothed comb or your fingers. Never use a brush on your curls.

Regular trims:

If you don’t go for a visit with your stylist regularly, you might find your curls are prone to split ends. Getting regular trims will remove dead ends, which will allow your curls to grow longer and stronger.

Cocktail products:

Increase the effectiveness of your products by mixing them together or “cocktailing” them before application. Otherwise, you are layering products one on top of another, which may not make them the most effective.

Use serum:

Cocktailing is not for everyone. If you have to pick one product, go with a serum. A serum smoothes curls, gives definition, and separation. Use three or four pumps, emulsify in your hands and then apply throughout damp strands.

Condition ends:

If your curls are seeming dull or lifeless, you might not want to weigh them down with more product. Instead, focus on adding conditioner to your ends to help protect them from splits and damage until you can get in with your stylist for a trim.

Pineapple overnight:

Curls can get crushed while you sleep. Avoid this issue by gathering your curls on top of your head in a “pineapple” so you can wake up with gorgeous, defined curls instead of flattened strands.

Use heat:

This isn’t something we’d recommend all the time, but sometimes heat tools can be helpful. Use a diffuser to dry your curls quickly and get defined tendrils. A curling iron can help refresh and recoil fallen curls.
