Great Tips For Curly Hair

I don’t know about you, but I often get asked “How do you make your hair do that?”  Products, sweat and tears is usually my response! For our curly girls out there, we know it’s more than just springing out of bed in the morning with a headful of gorgeous curls. Whether you want to share these tips with your fans or keep them for yourself, here are some suggestions on how to get gorgeous curls every day!

Bottoms up: Always start working through tangles from the bottom up. Work through each tangle gently and thoroughly without ripping or tearing at snarls. You should use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to detangle. If you own a brush, consider banishing it to a long forgotten about drawer or throwing it away altogether. Brushes are no friends to your curls!

Get regular trims: We can’t stress this enough! Many curlies complain that their curls don’t grow healthy, long or strong and often it’s due to breakage or split ends. Schedule regular trims with your stylist (usually every 6-10 weeks) to make sure you’re getting rid of the dead stuff!

Play mixologist: When applying your products to your damp curls, don’t be afraid to cocktail them together! Some products work best for certain curl types, other girls will need more of some things and less of other. Mixing and matching your favorite products allows you to create a customized “product” for your curl’s needs and also makes sure they work together as opposed to layering one on top of the other.

Condition the ends: It’s no secret that most curlies don’t wash their hair every day (I just came off of a 12 day no wash streak) but you still need to care for your curls on your days off. You can do this by applying conditioning treatments such as a moisturizing leave in to the ends of your curls to give them an added boost.

Sleep wisely: Before hitting the hay, pineapple your curls to create more defined curls overnight. Piling your curls on top of your head before sleep helps keep them from getting crushed as well as maintains their regular shape. In the morning, carefully remove the pineapple, shake your curls out and apply extra styling products as necessary. This is a great time to use a curl refreshing spray or to touch up dry ends with some extra conditioner.
