If you have curly hair, odds are you’ve dealt with split ends. Splits are annoying because they can minimize curl growth and can lead to frizz if they go untreated. One of the best ways to keep splits to a minimum is to schedule regular (every 6-8 week) trims with your stylist. In the meantime, you can help keep splits at a minimum with these great DIY curl care treatments made with things you can find right in your kitchen.

Oil: Before shampooing your curls, protect them with an oil treatment. Mix melted coconut, olive and almond oils together and then apply to your curls from mid shaft to ends, Make sure to pay attention to the ends. Let the mixture sit for up to 2 hours or overnight if your splits are bad.

Egg: Eggs are full of natural protein and nutrients, making them great for splits. Mix one egg yolk with almond oil and blend until smooth. Apply this mixture from scalp to ends. Allow this to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing out.

Honey: This bee byproduct is one of the greatest remedies for damaged curls. You can mix with oils to make it a little smoother or apply directly to your curls. Allow to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing with cool water. You can use honey up to three times a month to help manage damage.

Banana: Not only are they great for a post workout snack, bananas are full of potassium which is great for curls. Mash one ripe banana with three tablespoons of milk, adding in one egg and blending until smooth. If your curls are dry, feel free to add in 3 tablespoons of honey. Apply to your scalp and throughout your curls, allowing it to sit for up to 1 hour before rinsing.

Essential oils: They’re not only great for diffusing! Essential oils can be awesome when added to your DIY curl care treatments. Add 10 drops of sandalwood or mix up your own cocktail of oils. Add the oils to aloe vera gel and apply to your curls for a conditioning treatment.
