More curlies are beginning to look towards all natural products when it comes to taking care of their curls. Curls are more delicate than other types of hair, and require more TLC to keep them looking fabulous. Many products on the market are loaded with chemicals that aren’t super healthy for curls, such as parabens and sulfates. Whenever possible, you want to avoid using those with your curls as they can be drying and harsh to delicate strands.

If you’re motivated to keep your curls hydrated but also interested in natural curl care, consider crafting your own awesome curl care product! Here’s the recipe for one of our favorite moisturizing curl creams.

Ingredients:

8 oz of shea butter

4 oz virgin coconut oil

½ cup aloe vera gel

1 tablespoon jojoba oil

1 tablespoon Jamaican black castor oil

What to do:

In a microwave safe bowl, melt the coconut oil until it’s liquified. Mix with the remaining ingredients using a hand mixer or stand mixer until it’s fully incorporated and has a light, fluffy texture. Store in a sealed container until ready to use.

To use:

Once you’ve made your mixture, you can use it to help maintain moisture in your curls and promote smooth, sleeker locks. When you’re ready to style your curls, apply the product throughout damp but not soaking wet curls. Make sure you’re completely covering your curls but don’t overuse, as the heavy shea butter can weigh down delicate strands. Style as normal and enjoy smooth, well defined and moisturized curls!
