Coconut oil is the dark horse of all the oils. Although it's been used in beauty treatments for ages, it's seeing a surge in popularity in the last few years. This is because not only is it cheap, it's very diverse. You can use coconut oil in a variety of ways, and this includes on your curls. These are the best uses for coconut oil on curls. After you've given these tips a try, make sure to let us know how it works for you!
The Best Uses For Coconut Oil On Curls
To utilize coconut oil to help curls grow, make your own scalp massage. Mix 1 cup melted coconut oil and 10 drops of rosemary oil. Combine and allow to cool for a few minutes before applying directly to the scalp and massaging in with your finger tips. Pull through to the ends of your strands, and allow to sit for 30 minutes. Wash out with warm water and a gentle shampoo.
Nothing is more annoying than dry, itchy dandruff. To get rid of those yucky flakes for good, you have to kill the fungus that causes it. Coconut oil can be effective due to its anti fungal properties. Mix 1 cup melted coconut oil, 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 5-10 drops tea tree essential oil together. Apply to your scalp once cooled, and massage in. This will help kill the fungus, and stimulate blood flow, which will encourage healthy scalp regeneration.
Split ends and damage:
If curls are split or damaged, you can help protect them from further wear and tear by using coconut oil. Creating your own coconut oil based mask can help smooth distressed strands and minimize further splits. Create a mixture of 1 cup of virgin coconut oil, 1 large egg, and 2 tablespoons raw, organic honey. Allow all the ingredients to come to room temperature before melting the coconut oil, and allowing it to cool for several minutes. If the oil is too hot, it'll cook the egg. Once the ingredients are blended smooth, you can apply from the midshaft of your curls down, cover and allow to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes. Wash away with a gentle cleansing shampoo, and follow with a conditioner if desired.
