The best oils for your curls: olive oil

Have you ever thought about using olive oil in your hair? If not, you might be missing out! This oil has been around for a long time, and is a staple in many pantries. It might even be in yours. However, not everyone realizes that olive oil’s benefits can go beyond adding healthy fats to your diet. It can also be extremely helpful and healthful for curls.

There are a ton of benefits of using olive oil in your curl care routine. It’s loaded with healthful ingredients such as Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin D, and Monosaturated fatty acids. These are all components that can work together to help soften your curls, and add shine as well as minimize frizz.

Olive help will help keep your curls easier to style by softening the strands, and will minimize the appearance of split ends. It works great as a hot oil treatment, or as a pre poo before showering. It can be a heavier oil, so wouldn’t be ideal for finer, wavier strands but would work really well for curls girls with thick, coarse strands.

You can incorporate olive oil into your curl routine in a few ways. Start by using it as a pre poo. This is a treatment you apply to your curls before you shower, and leave for at least 30 minutes, but overnight works fine too. It protects your curls from losing moisture while showering.

Olive oil also works great as a hot oil treatment. Warm a small bowl of olive oil, but make sure it’s not scorching hot. Section your curls into 4-6 even sections, and divide. Then, apply the oil to your scalp, using your fingers to massage it in. Once your scalp’s covered, you can then pull it through your strands. Cover with a plastic shower cap, and allow the treatment to sit for one hour before washing out with warm water and shampoo.
