When you’re trying to grow out your curls, nothing is more irritating than sluggish growth. However, there are some things you can do to help encourage faster curl growth, starting a refreshing scalp scrub. Over time, build up on your scalp can block your pores, and cause circulation to slow down. When this happens, natural curl growth can slow down as well. Give your strands a kick start by refreshing your scalp, stimulating blood flow, and helping your follicles stay healthy.

Aloe vera:

Aloe vera is extremely hydrating, which makes it a great choice for dry, distressed scalps. Take 3 tablespoons of fresh aloe vera juice or gel, whatever you have on hand is fine, and combine it with 1 tablespoon of a thicker grained sugar, like sugar in the raw. Mix until the sugar is absorbed by the aloe vera. After shampooing, massage the mixture into your scalp using your finger tips, rubbing in slow circles. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before rinsing away with warm water.

Coffee:

Just about everyone loves a hot (or iced) cup of coffee to get jump started in the morning, but did you know your scalp could also benefit from a caffeine jolt? Take 1 tablespoon of brewed coffee, and combine it with 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix until completely combined, and apply it to washed or wet curls. Use your finger tips and massage it into your scalp. This will help break up dandruff or build up, and the caffeine will get your blood moving. Do this a few times a month until you start seeing more growth. After allowing the product to sit for a few minutes, rinse it out with warm water.

Salt:

Salt is good for more than use seasoning your favorite dish. It can also be used as a handy scalp cleanser as well to help facilitate curl growth. One of the great things about this ingredient is that it’s cheap, and just about everyone has it in their pantry. Start with 1 tablespoon of coarse grained salt, such as Himalayan sea salt, and mix it with 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar. Apply it right to your scalp, massaging it into your hair. Allow it to sit for several minutes, before rinsing out with warm water.
