Do you feel as though getting your curls to act “right” is a constant battle? While some of us desire to change the porosity levels of our curls, that simply isn't possible. However, that doesn't mean you can't work with what you have. Here are some great products to try on low porosity curls.
Shampoos:
Shea Moisture protein-Free Low Porosity Shampoo:
This clarying shampoo is perfect for removing build up or other impurities from your curls. This will allow moisture to penetrate your strands.
You don't want to overuse this clarifying shampoo, for risk of stripping away natural oils or moisture. However, it is excellent at removing buildup.
This shampoo is also an excellent choice. While it works very similiarly to a clarifying shampoo, it doesn't necessarily count as one and is gentle enough for regular use.
Conditioners:
Shea Moisture Baobab & Tea Tree Oils Protein-Free Low Porosity Conditioner:
This conditioner pairs well with a clarifying shampoo to help restore any lost moisture. Not only does it have a refreshing tingling sensation, it also smells fantastic.
TGIN Triple Moisture Replenishing Conditioner:
This ultra moisturizing conditioner pairs well any low porosity shampoo to provide a boost of moisture after showering.
Deep Conditioners/Masks/Masques:
Mielle Organics Babassu Oil Mint Deep Conditioner:
While you don't want to overwhelm low porosity curls with protein, a small amount is still required for healthy strands. This deep conditioner will restore your curl's pH balance and add moisture back in. While it isn't the thickest of products, it leaves curls shiny and healthy.
This product has a creamier consistency, which makes for a more luxurious application. Your curls will be super soft and easy to style after using this mask.
Moisturizers:
As I Am So Much Moisture Hydrating Lotion:
Don't allow the water consistency of this product to fool you; it still works wonders on dry curls. It doesn't leave behind any visible residue, and curls are shinier, healthy, and easy to manage.
Mielle Organics Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk:
This hair milk can play double duty as a sealant and a moisturizer. Some curly girls opt to use it as the C when they follow the L.O.C. method.
Stylers:
Lottabody Texturizing Setting Lotion:
This lotion will help set unruly curls. It's perfect for use when setting twists or braids to hold curls in place. This will help keep twist outs from becoming frizzy.
This curl cream is fantastic for defining difficult curls and holding them in place.
This gel is a bit crunchy, but will provide your low porosity curls with excellent hold. It doesn't flake and will hold styles in place.
