Have you ever heard of a bentonite clay curl care mask? Here’s some tips on what a clay curl care mask is, why it will benefit your hair, and how you can make one at home.

What is it?

Bentonite clay is formed from the ashes of volcanos and gets its name from where it is produced, which is Fort Benton, Wyoming. It is being increasingly used for detoxification and is a naturally great choice for curly girls, as it won’t harm your strands.

How it works:

It works to remove toxins from your body, skin, and in this case, hair. This clay is formed from the ashes of volcanos. When mixed with water, bentonite clay attracts toxins and removes them. Pretty cool, huh? This hair mask will help hydrate, control frizz, remove build up, and creates soft, well defined curls.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup bentonite clay
  • 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon Jamaican black castor oil
  • 1 tablespoon almond oil
  • 3 tablespoons aloe vera juice or gel

What to do:

In a mixing bowl, add in the clay.

Then add your oils, making sure the coconut oil has been completely melted beforehand. Mix until completely smooth. Try to avoid having any lumps. It should be the consistency of Greek yogurt.

Wash your curls and blot away excess water. Apply throughout your strands, making sure you completely coat your hair. Once your curls are covered, place a plastic shower cap over your hair. Allow to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes so the mask has time to absorb into your hair.

Rinse with cool water. You can also use a bit of shampoo if needed to remove any excess mask. Once your curls are clean, follow up with a hydrating conditioner.

Repeat weekly to enjoy smooth, frizz free, shiny, and hydrated curls!
