If you have curly hair, odds are you use some type of oil to help maintain shine and moisture. There are a wide variety of oils on the market to choose from, and they vary in quality and price. It can be hard to figure out which oils are best for your curl type, so we've compiled a list to help you navigate the process.

argan oil

Argan oil:

You only need a few drops of this oil for it to go a long way. This oil will nourish your curls and help protect your hair from heat styling, as well as adding essential moisture. If you use argan oil regularly, you might see an increase in your curl's vitality and softness. Distribute this oil through the shaft of your curls, taking care to avoid the scalp so your hair doesn't become oily.

jojoba oil

Jojoba oil:

This oil is highly valued by curlies everywhere because it mimics the natural sebum produced by your scalp. This means your scalp and hair will most likely react favorably to this oil, resulting in maximum benefits with little side effects. This oil works by penetrating the hair's cuticle and keeping your scalp free of dandruff. Jojoba works well as regular leave-in treatment.

Olive oil

Olive oil:

This oil is a jack of all trades. While most popularly used in cooking, it also can benefit your curls. It's highly moisturizing for both curls and skin. It can help conceal frizzy curls by creating a sleek look. To use olive oil, apply 2 tablespoons once a week through your curls and allow to sit before shampooing out.

castor oil

Castor oil:

If you're struggling with curl growth, castor oil can help. It's packed with essential ingredients like vitamin E, protein, minerals and anti-fungal properties, all of which can help support healthy curl growth. Since castor oil can be very thick, you'll want to mix it with a lighter carrier oil before application. To help combat hair loss and dandruff, apply it to your scalp and leave on overnight. Rinse with your more shampoo, and repeat weekly.
