Whether you’ve embraced your natural frizzy texture, or frizz is a foe, taking care of frizz is something on a lot of curly girl’s minds. Frizz can be really irritating, but also indicative of a bigger problem. Often unwanted frizz occurs because curls are lacking moisture, or are being damaged in some way. If you’re noticing your curls are going more towards the frizzy side, you might be looking for some help. Got frizz? Try this castor oil mask. This easy, DIY treatment will help smooth and soothe your curls.

What you’ll need:

Luckily, if you have a bottle of castor oil already, you’re half way to creating your own castor oil hair mask. Take 1 tablespoon of aloe vera, and 1 teaspoon of castor oil. Place in a bowl, and combine until both ingredients are fully incorporated. Then, you can add in a few drops of your favorite essential oils. You can choose an oil based upon your curl’s needs, such as peppermint, tea tree, or chamomile. Rosemary helps deal with curl loss, and lavender manages bacteria on the scalp, as well as soothes. Additionally, if you have a lot of hair, you might need to increase the incredients.

After you’ve mixed everything together, section your curls. Then, working through each section, apply the product and massage it into your scalp using your fingertips. Don’t rub too roughly, but instead in gentle, slow circles. Pull the mixture through your hair, and then cover with a plastic shower cap. You can add heat if you’d like, and allow it to sit for 60 minutes before washing out with warm water.
