If you're thinking about using coconut oil on your curls, the answer is you absolutely should! Coconut oil has been used for years not only to cook with, but also to enhance beauty treatments. Therefore, adding coconut oil to your curl care routine is a no brainer. These are even more great ways to use coconut oil on curls. We've given you some ideas before, but these will help you bring your curls to the next level!
Even More Great Ways To Use Coconut Oil On Curls
Combat head lice:
As much as we don't want to think about, the kids are heading back to school soon. This means they're probably going to bring home those dreaded, itchy bugs at some point. Fortunately, you don't have to live with them for long if you use coconut oil to defeat them. Mix 1 cup of coconut oil with 10 drops of anise oil. Completely cover the hair with the mixture, place a plastic shower cap over, and allow to sit for 4-6 hours. This will smother the bugs and kill the nits. Remove nits with a fine toothed comb, and repeat as necessary. The added bonus is curls will be left smooth, soft, and easy to work with.
Sometimes curls can work in on themselves, resulting in knots, snarls, and tangles. This can be incredibly frustrating and annoying to deal with. Therefore, you'll need a tool to combat tangles. Consider creating your own curl detangler using coconut oil. Mix 1-2 cups of coconut oil, 1 cup water based conditioner, and 10 drops of lavender oil together in a bottle. For this DIY product, you might want to consider using fractionated coconut oil so it doesn't congeal. Otherwise, you'll need to re-melt to use. Spray the mixture on damp curls to create great slip for working through the toughest knots.
Leave in conditioner:
Every curly girl needs a fabulous leave in conditioner in her curl care toolbox. When you can't find one, you can always make your own. Mix 1 cup of fractionated coconut oil, 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, and 10 drops of rosemary essential oil together and pour into a spray bottle. Spritz throughout damp strands to moisturize curls.
