DIY Hibiscus Oil For Thin Curls

Hibiscus flowers and leaves:

These ingredients will nourish your damaged strands, and encourage healthy growth in the follicles. It also coats curls to keep them shiny, healthy, and helps retain their natural shape.

Coconut oil:

This oil is lauded for its moisturizing properties and works well with hibiscus. It will moisturize the scalp, unclog blocked up pores, and encourage blood flow for better growth. It will also help curls to be soft and shiny.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup virgin coconut oil
  • 6-7 dried hibiscus flowers
  • 5-6 dried or fresh hibiscus leaves

What to do:

Place the coconut oil in a small saucepan on medium heat. Once the coconut oil has completely melted, add in the hibiscus flowers and leaves. Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After the time is up, remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely. Do not remove the flowers or leaves. Before the mixture solidifies, place into a mason jar or other air tight container.

How to use:

This oil mixture makes an excellent prepoo mixture. Before washing your curls, section your strands into 6-8 evenly sized sections, based upon how much hair you have. Coat the strands evenly with the oil mixture. Allow it to sit for a minimum of one hour before washing. If your curls are particularly dry or damaged, you can cover your curls with a plastic shower cap and allow the oil to sit overnight. Before washing, massage the oil into your scalp to break up any leftover build up. Follow up your shampooing with a deep conditioning treatment.
