When you’re working on growing out your curls, curl fall can be really aggravating. While it’s normal to loose about 100 strands of curls a day, there are times when you might notice more strands coming out. While there can be hormonal reasons why your curls fall, sometimes it just happens. However, you can crack an egg to prevent curl fall. While it seems kind of out there, a DIY curl care mask made with egg can help! Follow this super simple recipe to help preserve and enhance your strands.

Common Curly Hair Problems And How To Fix It

Ingredients:

1 large egg

2 tablespoons raw, organic honey

1 cup mayonnaise

Additional: essential oils, or a touch of cinnamon

What to do:

Crack the egg into a medium sized bowl and whisk until lightly frothy. The yolk should be totally broken and mixed with the whites. Add in the honey, which should be warmed to room temperature, followed by the mayonnaise, also room temperature. If you don’t warm the ingredients, this could cause the honey to seize up and make it difficult to spread. However, making the ingredients too hot could cook the egg, which would render the mask ineffective.

After you’ve blended all your ingredients together into a smooth mask, you can add the cinnamon or essential oils. If you choose to use oils, make your selection based upon what your curls need. For example, if your scalp is dry or irritated, you might consider lavender or tea tree. Tea tree especially can help with curl fall by stimulating the blood flow to the scalp and removing build up. Lavender soothes irritated follicles.

How To Manage Curl Fall

Wash your curls with a gentle cleansing shampoo, and squeeze out excess water. Curls should still be damp but not completely saturated. Apply the mask throughout your curls, from roots to ends. Make sure all your strands are covered to make the mast the most effective. Cover with a plastic cap, or a towel, and allow to sit for 30 minutes.  Rinse away with cool water, and style your curls! Repeat weekly.
