When it comes to curl care, there are a lot of expectations out there. Some are reasonable, and others not as much. However, we want to help clear up some of those questions. Here’s what to expect from your 4c curls. Check out these suggestions, and let us know if you agree, what you’d add, or change!

What To Expect From Your 4c Curls

Wash and go may or may not be for you:

When it comes to 4c curls, you may find your hair doesn’t respond as well to wash and go styling as other curl types. This doesn’t mean you aren’t taking care of your curls correctly, your curl type just doesn’t always work as well with this type of styling. It also takes a bit more time, so if you’re in a rush, this might not be the style for you.

Hair dye isn’t your friend:

It’s very tempting to color your hair, but most 4cs come to regret this decision. Your curls are probably already prone to damage and dryness, so it’s important to think about ways to protect your strands from further damage. However, color is extremely damaging to delicate strands. Therefore, you might want to think about skipping that color treatment, especially lighteners or bleach.

Heat should be avoided:

If you;re trying to get the most out of your 4c curls, then doing your best to avoid heat is something you should be doing. Heat, when applied directly to your strands, can be very damaging to your delicate strands, and strip away your natural moisture. When you can, try to skip using a hair dryer on your curls, and hide your heat tools so you aren’t tempted to flat iron your strands. Instead, allow yourself ample time to letyour strands air dry.
