Prepoo:

Before shampooing, coat your curls with an oil. Olive or coconut are great choices. For finer curls, select a lighter oil. If you have time, allow the oil to sit overnight. This will lock moisture in for washing.

Cowash:

When wash day arrives, ditch your shampoo and pick up a cowash instead. This conditioner based cleanser will remove dirt and buildup without stripping away moisture. Pay close attention to your scalp, massaging the product in. Allow it to rinse out through the strands.

Condition:

Always, always, follow up a shampoo treatment with a conditioner. The first ingredient listed should be water to add lost moisture back in. Apply primarily to the mid-shaft down, focusing on the roots of your curls. This is a good time to apply a deep conditioner as well. Cover strands and allow to sit for at least 30 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Dry:

Gently squeeze away excess water using a microfiber towel or a t-shirt. Don’t rub your curls.

Apply:

Once excess water has been removed, it’s time to apply product. A hydrating leave in conditioner should be applied first, followed by light oil, focused on the scalp. After the oil, apply a curl defining cream, and lock curls in with a gel. You can finish with a shine serum to smooth down curls and minimize frizz.
