For those who are trying to grow out their curls, the wait can feel like it takes forever. This is because curls do appear to grow more slowly. However, your hair does grow at the same rate as everyone else’s, but due to the coiled shape of your strands, it looks like it’s shorter than it is. This is also why you should get your curls cut dry, but we’ll save that for another post. In the meantime, if you’re trying to grow out your strands, try this DIY curl growth treatment .

Not only is it super easy to make, it can help facilitate growth, which will get you to your longer curl goals that much more quickly. If you’ve tried this recipe and love it, make sure you let us know!

Get started:

To make this DIY leave in conditioner, you’ll need a few things. Gather four tablespoons of Shea butter, one tablespoon of argan oil (or almond oil if you have fine curls), two tablespoons of witch hazel, seven drops of rosemary essential oil, seven drops of peppermint essential oil, and one teaspoon of vitamin E oil. See, it’s pretty easy so far!

Create:

Now that you’ve got all of your ingredients together, it’s time to get creative. Start by softening the Shea butter in a double boiler, or in the microwave. Once it’s soft but not fully melted, you’ll want to place it into a bowl, and then gently start combining the other ingredients. Mix until everything is fully blended. You can also whip the ingredients together using a blender or mixer for a lightweight product.

Once it’s finished, store it in a glass jar with a lid that can be tightly screwed on, and store in a cool, dry place. It might need to be re whipped or re mixed if it becomes separated. Use by applying throughout your curls as your leave-in moisturizer. If you have thicker, kinkier coils, you can apply it from the scalp down. For those with finer textures, apply from the midshaft down. Enjoy softer, smoother, easier-to-style curls that are also growing faster!
