When it comes to our curly hair, there are tons and tons of suggestions out there. Like all advice, some works better than others. For curls, not all suggestions are going to work for every curly type, but that’s ok. We’ve got you covered with tips you didn’t know about your curls. Give these suggestions a try on your curls, and don’t forget to let us know what you liked or what worked for you.

Tips You Didn’t Know About Your Curls

Warm up conditioner:

Well, this one sounds kind of strange, but give it a try! Before applying your conditioner, squeeze the excess water out of your curls. Warm up the conditioner for about 30 seconds in your microwave, and then apply it throughout your strands. The warmed up product combined with the wet hair will allow the product to more deeply penetrate into the shaft of your hair, and will give you softer curls with less frizz. We don’t know about you, but we think this sounds pretty great. You can also do this with your deep conditioning treatments.

Buying a dupe is ok:

Sometimes, you’ll see recommendations for products that suggest buying a very, very expensive product. Occasionally, it can be nice to splurge on a spendier product, but this isn’t always necessary. There are a lot of great products out there that mimic the efficacy of a more expensive product, so you don’t have to blow your budget on buying a ton of products. Instead, allow yourself to buy a dupe here and there. For example, instead of buying a very pricey deep conditioning treatment, grab yourself a jar of Shea Moisture’s deep conditioners, which usually fall into the $12-$15 range. Or if you’re on an even tighter budget, a jar of coconut oil can also work wonders, and falls in the $5 category. We like that!

Practice some easy styles:

Finally, it’s important to have some easy styles read to go. Just because you have curly hair, doesn’t mean you have to do big, elaborate styles every day (if you do, that’s totally ok, too! Do what works best for you). To make life easier on you, practice some easy styles. This are styles that you should be able to do in a few minutes, which will last throughout the day, and give you a break from spending a lot of time on your hair. Additionally, some of these styles can also be protective, which will give you the change to rock them for a few days between.
