We all know having curly hair is a wonderful thing. However, with curly hair comes great responsibility, more maintenance and required care to keep your locks looking gorgeous. We’re going to share some of our favorite tips and tricks that will make your life with curls that much easier.

Detangle like a champ: When you’re detangling your curls to get ready for wash day or for styling, cover your sink with plastic wrap. This’ll keep loose strands from slipping down the drain and clogging it up as you can just pick it up and throw it out. When you’re ready to start the detangling process, ditch the brush and use your fingers or a wide toothed comb to work through those knots. Start towards the ends and work your way up toward your scalp. Your curls will thank you!

Deep condition before you cleanse: To get even more moisturizing benefits, dampen your curls with a spray bottle, apply deep conditioner from roots to ends and cover with a plastic shower cap. Hop in the shower and allow the steam to help the deep conditioner penetrate your curls while you bathe. When you’re ready to rinse, cleanse your curls with your own custom made cowash by lathering up with a mixture of your favorite shampoo and conditioner. This mixture will cleanse your curls without stripping them of essential moisture and natural oils.

Dry your curls the right way: Before you leave the shower, use conditioner to work through any tangles. If you have extra thirsty curls, you could consider leaving the conditioner in to help reduce frizz. Blot your curls with a soft t shirt or microfiber towel, avoiding using a terry cloth towel. To help your curls retain their shape, “pineapple” or pile them up on top of your head until they dry.

Style like you mean it: Get the most mileage out of your curl care products by creating your own “cocktail”. You can do this by mixing products that you want to work together, such as gel and a leave in conditioner to create hold for curls without the crunch. If you’re low on your favorite products reach for some ingredients found in your kitchen, such as coconut oil to give your curls extra shine and moisture.

Protect those curls: Making sure your curls are protected is key. Before you work out, support your curls by adding some leave in conditioner to the ends, and wrapping them in a ponytail or bun. When it comes to sleeping, get yourself a silk or satin pillowcase to keep your curls from drying out or tangling.
